City of Dallas TX
The city of Dallas Senior Center was established to meet the social and nutritional needs of individuals. The nutritional food is prepared by the Visiting Nurse Association and the center is administered by Dallas County Department of Health & Human Services/Older Adult Services Program. The program is funded by the Dallas Area Agency on Aging, Dallas County, and the City of Dallas. The staff conducts assessments of the needs of the senior community and implements programs to address those needs, such as substance abuse and mental health assessments, seminars on consumer fraud, and legal protection.
- The following services are offered to members:
- Transportation for zip code areas 75210/75215
- A nutritional meal, exercise (every Tuesday/Thursday), crafts/ceramics, sewing,
- Dominoes/bingo/cards, gardening, fishing, grocery shopping, movie day (Friday), and other special outings.
The City of Dallas nurses visit the center, every 2nd Wednesday of the month, to check and monitor vital signs (blood pressure, weight, and nutrition). They also give flu shots during the flu season.
The center is also a drop off point for PAN (People and Nutrition), through the North Texas Food Bank. PAN delivers commodities (groceries) every 2nd Thursday of each month starting at 10 a.m.
